Our targets

In addition to reducing our own environmental footprint, we actively engage employees, customers, and suppliers to promote greater environmental awareness. To allocate resources effectively, CETIN Serbia has identified environmental protection, energy efficiency and circular economy as key priorities within our environmental strategy. Looking ahead, we plan to develop a Group-wide decarbonization strategy that will clearly define our environmental commitments and goals.

Our goal is to reach 100% renewable energy

Achieve our emission reduction goals by ensuring that renewable energy becomes the primary source of our electricity consumption.

Reach our SBTi target by 2030

We will actively support our Group in reaching its SBTi target by 2030, contributing to a 42% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and a 25% reduction in absolute Scope 3 emissions compared to the 2022 baseline.

Progressively reduce electricity consumption reaching 5.4 GWh cumulative savings by 2025

We will also invest in energy efficiency solutions and equipment such as technology modernization, power supply, and cooling, allowing us to save substantial amount of electricity consumption.

Reuse, resell or recycle 100% of decommissioned network equipment by 2025

We are committed to ensuring that all decommissioned network equipment and other network waste is either reused, resold, or recycled, preventing any of it from ending up in landfill or being incinerated.

Progress highlights

Our goal is to reach 100% renewable energy

Since January 1, 2022, all electricity used to power our network is exclusively sourced from green-certified renewable energy, specifically from the Đerdap I hydroelectric power plant (also known as Iron Gates I).

Reach our SBTi target by 2030

We are systematically collecting ESG data across all relevant emission sources, enhancing the accuracy of our Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventories. In parallel, we are assessing our operational and value‑chain impacts to identify key emission drivers. Based on these insights, we are developing and implementing targeted decarbonization actions.“

Progressively reduce electricity consumption reaching 5.4 GWh cumulative savings by 2025

We are running a robust energy efficiency program that is generating significant electricity savings. These savings are achieved through initiatives such as the implementation of smart equipment in our RAN SWAP projects and the replacement of older technology with more energy-efficient solutions.

Reuse, resell or recycle 100% of decommissioned network equipment by 2025

In 2024, 100% of our electrical waste was successfully recycled. Moving forward, we aim to expand this effort by introducing reuse and resale initiatives for electrical equipment wherever possible, further supporting circularity practices.

Impact stories

Follow our steps towards sustainability and carbon neutrality
As Hungary’s first mobile telecommunications infrastructure provider, CETIN Hungary has a longstanding commitment to sustainable data transmission. Our sustainability strategy consists of four distinct, yet interconnected pillars. The technological pillar is the backbone of our existence, through which we design, build, and operate high-quality networks. We also offer innovative solutions in the field of security. Through the environmental pillar, we strive to minimize the impact of our business activities on the environment, going beyond legal and other requirements. Our social pillar focuses on people. In addition to our extensive well-being program and regular charitable and sponsorship activities, supporting young people is close to our hearts. The STEMpowered by CETIN free talent program aims to support young girls before they make career choices, helping them see technical and technology-related professions as real and attractive opportunities.
The SD-WAN networking strategy allows companies to replace outdated firewalls, routers, and WAN optimization appliances with a single appliance. This minimizes hardware requirements and power consumption. In addition, the entire strategy is sustainable and has a high-security profile. The project will be completed later this year.
CETIN Hungary has multi-operator radio access network sharing agreement in Hungary. That means that the mobile network built and operated by CETIN is being used to deliver communication services to the end customers of more than one commercial operator.
